(NYSE: HUM), six local organizations will be awarded grants to scale their mental health operations and increase capacity. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/press.humana.com\/news\/news-details\/2023\/Humana-Foundation-and-Greater-Louisville-Inc.-Partner-to-Address-the-Shortage-of-Regional-Mental-Health-Providers\/default.aspx#gsc.tab=0\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">partnership<\/a>\u00a0was launched in August as part of the Humana Foundation\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/press.humana.com\/news\/news-details\/2023\/Humana-Foundation-Invests-1-Million-to-Support-Louisville-in-Wake-of-Shootings\/default.aspx#gsc.tab=0\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">$1 million pledge<\/a>\u00a0to support Greater Louisville in the wake of the Old National Bank shooting in April. Funding for the grants was led by the Humana Foundation, and included contributions from Brown-Forman, Chrysalis, Elite Homes, Fifth Third Securities, Inc., Kirchdorfer Opportunities Foundation, The Koetter Group, LG&amp;E and KU Energy LLC, Millennium Events, and Old National Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Grant amounts range between $50,000 and $100,000, with five organizations receiving full funding. Recipients include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bridgemindbody.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Bridge Counseling &amp; Wellness<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentuckypsychologicalfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Kentucky Psychological Foundation<\/a>\u00a0in partnership with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jfcslouisville.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Jewish Family and Career Services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryhurst.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Maryhurst<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/martinandmuir.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Martin &amp; Muir Counseling<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindsightbehavioral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Mindsight Behavioral Health Specialty Group<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/oasistms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"external\">Oasis TMS<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table class=\"mcnTextBlock\" border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody class=\"mcnTextBlockOuter\">\n<tr>\n<td class=\"mcnTextBlockInner\" valign=\"top\">\n<table class=\"mcnTextContentContainer\" border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"mcnTextContent\" valign=\"top\">\u201cWe promised to stand with Louisville during this critical time and these grant awards open a path for expanded trauma-informed care which is vital to improving the health and well-being of our community,\u201d said Tiffany Benjamin, CEO of the Humana Foundation. \u201cThe Humana Foundation is committed to partnering with GLI, our steering committee, and these trusted recipients to eliminate the mental health disparities and inequities that hinder people from living connected, healthy lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applications for grant funding opened in August and required applicants to submit a detailed proposal with plans for scaling, long-term sustainability, and detailed documentation of how their proposal would serve diverse populations and partner with other groups in the community. Of the 41 applications, priority was given to applicants who can address categories of mental health that are in dire shortage \u2013 such as psychologists, psychiatrists and youth counselors. Recipients were chosen by a steering committee of business and community leaders who reviewed the applications. Committee members include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jennifer Barber, partner in charge, Frost Brown Todd<\/li>\n<li>Tiffany Benjamin, CEO, Humana Foundation<\/li>\n<li>Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO, Greater Louisville Inc.<\/li>\n<li>Robert Gunn Jr., chief equity and impact officer, Metro United Way<\/li>\n<li>Adria Johnson, president &amp; CEO, Metro United Way<\/li>\n<li>Dr. Steven D. Kniffley Jr., senior associate dean, College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati<\/li>\n<li>Amy Luttrell, president &amp; CEO, Goodwill Industries of Kentucky<\/li>\n<li>Darrin McCauley, SVP &#8211; corporate lending, Old National Bank<\/li>\n<li>David Oetken, center director, Small Business Development Center<\/li>\n<li>Corenza Townsend, chief administrative officer, Norton West Louisville Hospital<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe need for increased mental health capacity is critical for our community and our economy. More than ever, we understand the correlation between mental health and a thriving workforce,\u201d said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of GLI. \u201cGLI and the business community are grateful to the Human Foundation for their investment in helping these organizations increase their impact and provide their mental health services to people in our community who need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/mental-health-care-health-professional-shortage-areas-hpsas\/?currentTimeframe=0&amp;selectedRows=%7B%22states%22:%7B%22kentucky%22:%7B%7D%7D%7D&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Percent%20of%20Need%20Met%22,%22sort%22:%22desc%22%7D\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">According to data from KFF<\/a>, across the state, at least 215 more psychiatrists are needed to support the Commonwealth\u2019s population. Findings from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwhwi.org\/behavioralhealth-workforce-tracker-v20.html\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity<\/a>\u00a0show that shortage of providers is particularly acute in Louisville\u2019s Jefferson County, which is home to less than 13% of the state\u2019s mental health counselors and 25% of the state\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of the grant recipients is already doing incredible work for our community and this funding will help expand their reach to more people in underserved neighborhoods who need support,\u201d said Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. \u201cThank you to the Humana Foundation, GLI, and all the organizations who contributed for investing in growing this critical sector and prioritizing addressing the ongoing mental health challenges many in our city face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Funding will be allocated to all recipients by December 31, 2023, and all applicants are required to submit detailed reporting after one year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">###<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Humana Foundation<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Humana Foundation was established in 1981 as the philanthropic arm of Humana Inc. and is focused on health equity, working to eliminate unjust, avoidable and unnecessary barriers in health and healthcare.
