{"id":7259,"date":"2021-01-13T11:40:24","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T16:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/?p=7259"},"modified":"2021-01-13T11:40:24","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T16:40:24","slug":"sports-wagering-legislation-filed-in-kentucky-general-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/advocacy-and-legislation\/sports-wagering-legislation-filed-in-kentucky-general-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"Sports Wagering legislation filed in Kentucky General Assembly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bill to authorize and regulate sports wagering in Kentucky has been filed in the Kentucky General Assembly. <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/21rs\/hb241.html\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 241<\/a>, sponsored by Representative Adam Koenig, would allow Kentucky to join numerous other states throughout the country in allowing individuals to place bets on sports. Indiana and Tennessee have already authorized sports wagering and are already seeing the benefits. Indiana&#8217;s yearly sports betting handle has surpassed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnetwork.com\/legal-online-sports-betting\/indiana-crosses-1-billion-in-all-time-sports-betting-handle\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">$1 billion<\/a>. This legislation would create new business opportunities and drive economic growth throughout the Commonwealth as well as provide much-needed new state revenues to fund important government services such as public pensions and education.<\/p>\n<p>The bill has attracted more than a dozen bi-partisan cosponsors, so far.<\/p>\n<p>Passage of sports wagering legislation is a top priority for GLI. In the 2020 legislative session, with GLI&#8217;s support, sports wagering legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterlouisville.com\/advocacy-and-legislation\/sports-betting-bill-passes-house-committee\/\">passed<\/a> the House Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations but did not receive a vote in the House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A bill to authorize and regulate sports wagering in Kentucky has been filed in the Kentucky General Assembly.
